The Demise of Sky Rape

PUSHMASTER PICKS '012: WEEK SEVEN

By ROBB WITMER FULL
MAYBE LOOK FOR THE BALL ONCE IN A WHILE.

For the eighth consecutive season, the author is competing in the PushMaster Invitational Football Pool, the greatest gambling pool in the history of Sport. Every week players must make five picks against the point spread, college or pro, overs or unders.

Last night I personally witnessed the worst defense in College Football history: the 2012 West Virginia Mountaineers. If you have a strong stomach, check this team out some time. On any given play, only one or two of the eleven players seem to have an idea of where the ball is, and even they don’t act like they know what to do with that information.

But we knew they weren’t going to be able to stop anybody. The real quagmire in Morgantown is that the offense has scored twenty-one points in two weeks, with most of those coming in garbage time. Has the Big 12 figured out Dana Holgorsen’s Air Raid — né Sky Rape — offense? Was it all smoke and mirrors in the first place?

Some of the Mountaineer faithful are clamoring for a return to the Big East, where the competition is more forgiving. That sounds great and all... at least until Temple hangs 70 on you.

WEEK SEVEN PICKS

LAST WEEK: 4-1-0 | SEASON: 13-17-0, 43.33% | LIFETIME: 335-315-20, 51.54%

RAVENS (+7) v. Texans
I don’t have any reason to think the Texans are going to run away with this game, so I won’t.

PACKERS (-5) v. Rams
Is this a trap? Is this pick too obvious? Only if I lose.

Cardinals v. VIKINGS (-6.5)
I’m a believer in the Vikes. I believe in the Cards also, in that I believe they have about two or three wins left in them for the rest of the season.

Redskins v. GIANTS (-6)
The Giants are #TheBest team in Football right now, and while the Redskins aren’t exactly #TheWorst, they would be better off if this game was in November, when the Giants will temporarily be back to being a shit-ball team.

LIONS (+6.5) v. Bears
I’ve had this game on my radar all week. I tried again and again to talk myself out of it, but nothing worked, so here it is.
